We no longer sell the Che Guevara T-shirts
that were previously available on Ban T-shirts. The reason for
this is that the new owners of the copyright of the famous Che
Guevara image have granted exclusive rights to printing this
image on t-shirts to one company. Alberto Korda stated the following:
"As a supporter of the ideals for which Che Guevara died,
I am not averse to its reproduction by those who wish to propagate
his memory and the cause of social justice throughout the world."
We think it is unfortunate that the new owners
of the copyright, who did not take the picture themselves, and
are the owners of the image merely through good fortune, should
go against the wishes of the creator of the image. It is also
ironic that the only site, to the best of our knowledge, that
was printing Che shirts on sweat shop free organic cotton t-shirts
was us, Ban T-shirts. So all those Che shirts you see out there
are probably being made by exploited workers in Latin America
and other parts of the world. "VIVA LA REVOLUCION!"
Seriously, if you care about the kind of issues that Che fought
for, at least try and buy a shirt that is sweat shop free and
doesn't harm the environment. There are plenty of shirts out there
that meet this criteria and that also probably send a much stronger
message than a picture of Che does.
You either love him or you hate him, but it is
undeniable that Che Guevara's image has become
a symbol of revolution, communism and rebellion
against imperialism. Che T-shirt
